Originally published in 1994 as 'What's Left of Brunel', this examination of the life and career of one of the most influential and controversial of all British engineers is both biography and a guide to places where it is possible to see items that relate to him. 138 b/w illustrations. 5 maps.

Author: Jonathan Falconer

This book examines the life and career of one of the most influential and controversial of all British engineers, Isambard Kingdom Brunei. Brunel's achievements included the first tunnel under the Thames, the Clifton suspension bridge and, perhaps his two greatest triumphs, the Great Western Railway, now a World Heritage Site, and the SS Great Britain. The bicentenary of this enigmatic engineer's birth is celebrated in April 2006, and this offers the opportunity to reissue this account of Brunel's life and work. Originally published in 1994 as What's Left of Brunel, the book has been unavailable for many years. Illustrated throughout, it provides the reader with both a biography of Brunel and a guide to places where it is possible to see items that relate to him - either major buildings or small museum collections.

This title was first published in 1995 by Dial House as What's Left of Brunel? This is the reprinted edition from Ian Allan Publishing, 2007.
