BUS OPERATORS 1970: Scotland and North East England

The second title in the series shows the great variety of buses operated in this area at the start of the 1970s. The book is comprehensively illustrated throughout with both mono and colour photographs and covers all Scotland and the English counties of Durham, Northumberland and Cumberland.

In Scotland, the provision of public transport was dominated by the four municipal operators, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, along with the constituents of the newly formed Scottish Bus Group which, unlike the new National Bus Company in England and Wales, retained the traditional liveries and fleet names of the earlier companies. Alongside these there were myriad independent operators, all ensuring that the Scottish streets remained rich in the colours and variety of vehicle types seen.

South of the border, Tyneside became one of the first Passenger Transport Authorities whilst NBC subsidiaries such as Ribble, Cumberland Motor Services and Northern General operated alongside many well-known independents.
