First published in 1978, this is the second reprint of this popular book presenting a top quality photographic portfolio of this successful diesel class. First introduced in 1958, the last of the 200 built entered service in 1962. Allocated to the LMR, Eastern, North Eastern and Scottish Regions, they were a regular feature of the railway scene until the 1980s when the last examples were withdrawn. The photos capture the real essence of the class with the variety of workings they were called upon to power, with a background of railway scenery in many instances no longer to be seen. 234 b/w and 12 colour photos.
