The STORY OF THE Q1s: A Detailed History Of Every Member Of The Class

The STORY OF THE Q1s: A Detailed History Of Every Member Of The Class

A history of this remarkable and visually distinctive class of 0-6-0 engines built for the Southern and designed by Bulleid. His remit was to produce a powerful freight locomotive under war time conditions with a saving on metal used and weight. The first of the Q1s took to the rails in March 1942 and the rest of the forty-strong class were built by the end of the year. As well as covering their concept, construction and workings, there is an individual record for each locomotive, including allocations, works visits, tenders and boilers attached and dates of withdrawal. 66 b/w and 6 colour photos. 72 pages.
