Around the middle of the 1950´s, there appeared to be a shortage of small shunting locos on the Deutsche Bundesbahn. [German Federal Railways] Therefore a new diesel shunter was developed, with construction being shared by almost all of the famous manufacturing companies of the time. The new loco was classified at first as the V 60. A total of 942 locos of this type were constructed. The V 60, later reclassified Class 260 & 360, is just 10,45 metres long and runs at a top speed of 60 km/h. Powered by a 12 cylinder diesel motor at 478 kW, with hydraulic transmission, the three driving axles are driven via a jack shaft and coupling rods.
